I am a convicted felon who got tired of not owning a rifle, which goes against everything in me. So I got into airguns. Break-barrel .177 and .22’s then PCP 22’s, .25’s, .30’s and a .357.
All of my airguns are tuned to accurately shoot solid slugs. My FX Impact, which pummeled me for $2,100 before accessories, shoots 29.5 grain Nielson hollow points at about 930 FPS for over 50 ft-lbs of energy. Squirrels, Rabbits, crows find it highly effective, and even coyote sized game.
Slugs have a much better ballistic coefficient than pellets, and these have shot through 3/4 pine boards at 200 yards, which is the military standard for potential human lethality. At 20 yards, a 2×4 gets blasted through.
My Hatsan Hercules .357 shoots a 95 grain Nielson hollow point at about 860 FPS for 156 ft-lbs, which can kill a deer, waylay a coyote, or certainly be valid self defense material. This guy will penetrate (3) 3/4″ pine boards at close range.
So far, felons can still have a little fun, albeit below the sound barrier, lol. I think non-violent felons should be able to exercise their 2nd amendment rights after a period of rehabilitation and no further criminal activity.
