Agreed that Browning is the way to go too…..X Bolt! It’s expensive but a rifle that won’t let you down and you can pass on to the next generation

If you buy a Savage Axis, Trophy, Apex or Engage Hunter by 9/8/21, you’re eligible for a $50 rebate. I purchased a Savage Axis XP .30-06 Springfield Bolt-Action Rifle and am still waiting to go sight it in. It came with optics and this is considered an entry level rifle. If you can find it online try ammoseek.com. I purchased mine in Academy Outdoors for $349.99 and with the rebate it will be $299.99….not bad for a rifle that I can expect to get a couple 100 rounds out of before I upgrade…hopefully!

There’s currently another AXIS XP one on sale for $269.98 + an additional $50 rebate.
This one comes with a 9×40 Weaver optic as well! Good luck finding it and keep me posted.

Kind of leaning towards the Ruger Predator, but the Axis 2, The Mossberg Patriot and the Howa all look good too. Any thoughts as to which way ya’ll would go? Lots of pigs deer, and Elk in these parts. Also social ills, but I have a Rem. 870 for that.

That’s going to be hard to do in a 2021 environment. I think for a “just in case” rifle, you should be in the S&W MP15/ market with a dot/lpvo. Total into it is still going to be into the $700 range.

The only reason your “just in case” rifle should be .308 is if your “just in case” scenario includes shooting through concealment OR your standard shot is into the 400 yard range.

Glass for your new rig is going to be pricier as well at those ranges…spending as much or more on an optic for a nice rifle isn’t uncommon.

A viable (although unpopular) suggestion is going to be either a rifle from a pawn shop OR a PCC-like a hipoint carbine or a kel-tec. Those will be in budget and will do the trick.

Cheers!

First time gun buyer. I don’t hunt, but looking to have one around just in case. I would like to use it for target practice as well so definitely a rifle with a scope. Price range 300-400 dollars

It has a channeled barrel and twist channel bolt. Factory scope which I plan on updating but it is zeroed in, dead on and pretty to look at!!!! You don’t have to spend a ton of money to be deadly!! Just remember, spending lots of money doesn’t don’t make u b a better shot!
